Asia

Joanna "Asia" Kaczmarczyk

Joanna “Asia” Kaczmarczyk

Joanna, or just Asia (Ash-a) for short, is a rare breed: A Polish-born female surfer. Her love for the ocean started during her travels to the Canaries and Indo way back in the bright days of 2013 & 2014. She cut her teeth – like so many before her – on the breaks of Kuta Bali and Kuta Lombok, before heading to Lanza to improve on the ever-consistent waves of Caleta de Famara on the northwest coast (you know, away from the localism).

Fast forward eight years and Asia is now an accomplished surfer and surf traveler. The last few seasons have taken her to Sri Lanka twice and the good old Teardrop of India is now firmly her favorite place to hit the swell – especially the southwest coast when it’s winter back in Europe. She’s also traveled and surfed on the Mexican Pacific and is currently planning jaunts to Lombok and the Gilis.

Asia is a website manager and travel content writer by trade. She creates in both her native Polish and in English (in which she’s fluent). In her spare time, she likes hiking and skiing.

Desert Island surf destination: Hiriketiya Beach, Sri Lanka (about five years ago tho).

Stance: Regular

Boards: Currently a 6″4 egg.

  • The Ultimate Guide to Seattle Surf

All of the Seattle surf happens out on the western shores of northern Washington State. • The Ultimate Guide to Washington Surf

Washington surf is one for the adventurers. Heavy, pounding beach breaks are the name of the game, but some jetties do help shape those ceasless NW swells into something pretty good on occasion. • The Ultimate Guide to Tybee Island Surf

Tybee Island surf is probably – AKA definitely – the best in Georgia. Here, the Peach State takes a nod from Cali, with a couple of pier breaks that work in good autumn and winter swells. Surfing in Georgia might not be the stuff of magazine covers and features, but it’s okay. We particualrly like it if you’re craving a trip to see the best of The South and just want some surf on the side. • The Ultimate Guide to Sitges Surf

Sitges surf offers some rideable waves just outside of Barcelona. It’s hardly Hermosa Beach but it’s got the ankle slappers that novices crave and a bona fide Catalan surf school to boot.Sitges surf offers some rideable waves just outside of Barcelona. • The Ultimate Guide to Tofo Surf

People are now coming to Mozambique just for the Tofo surf. The town is a chilled beach escape on the Indian Ocean, surrounded by white sands. There’s a great right point, plus loads of beach breaks for beginners.People are now coming to Mozambique just for the Tofo surf.
