7 Out-Of-This-World Surf Hotels in Bali [2025]
The surf hotels in Bali are extraordinary stuff. From boho-chic shacks that cling to the Uluwatu cliffs to luxury lodges with tropical cabanas beside sprawling swimming pools, there’s all sorts.
There are more surf hotels in Bali than you can shake a stick of BBQ chicken feet at.
Yep, from the Bukit Peninsula in the south all the way to the lesser-known breaks of Balian and Medewi to the west, the so-called Isle of the Gods is bursting at the seams with fantastic places to stay and hit the waves.
In fact, we’d go as far as to say that Bali has perhaps the widest array of hotels for surfers of any destination on the planet. There are big resorts and boutique B&Bs alike within walking distance of iconic breaks like Ulus, Padang Padang, and beginner-friendly Kuta Beach.
What we love is that Bali does all that for a price point that would make the Maldives blush. You can drop $60 a night here and get five-star luxury, an infinity pool, an on-site spa – you name it.
After umpteen surf trips to Bali, we certainly have some favorites when it comes to hotels here. Check em’ below…

Dreamsea Surf Camp, Bali
The Dreamsea name is now whispered like some sort of priestly incantation in the world of luxury surf camps. These guys have been doing things right ever since they opened their first outlet on the cliffs of Uluwatu in south Bali back in the day.
The original is still going strong. It still has its ridiculously sumptuous rooms overlooking the bowling left handers of the Bukit Peninsula. It still touts yoga terraces and sunbathing spots set to a backdrop of Impossibles’ rifling tubes.
The location and style of this surf camp really does lend itself to the more advanced end of the spectrum. It’s not really for the beginners. Rippers, on the other hand, will be pleased to see that there’s a trio of the best breaks in the Bukit (and therefore the world) within paddle distance (almost).
Style wise, prepare to be wowed. The dream-like rooms cling to the rocks and open onto timber-built balconies that ring the coastline in grand fashion. The restaurant has front-on views over the wave, and a menu that’s packed with healthy Buddha bowls and artisan burgers.
The only downside? No pool.
Balian Prana

Go far enough up the south shores from Canggu and you’ll soon come to the Bali you’ve been dreaming of. Here, the horizon is claimed by the outline of ancient volcanos, lush rice paddies converge on the shoreline, and the surf breaks are a whole load less busy.
That’s the setting for the wonderful Balian Prana hotel, which studs the cliffs 100m or so along from what we’d say is arguably the best intermediate break on the southern shoreline – Balian’s A-frame rivermouth.
It’s a few minute’s on a scooter or a 20-minute walk from here to the waves through a relaxed Balinese village – a real pleasure in the early morning for the dawnie.
The hotel itself is a real lesson in Balinese style and simplicity. It’s bright, breezy, and filled with natural woods and intriguing Hindu art pieces. The rooms spill onto balconies and terraces that might offer views over the cliffs to the sea, or might be about watching the hummingbirds flit through the garden.
There’s a pool, of course. It’s ringed by dark volcanic stones and has a surround of lovely, carpet-like grass where it’s a joy to laze, read, and relax between morning and evening surf sessions.
Hotel Komune

No list of the best surf hotels in Bali could possibly be complete without a nod to the iconic Komune Bali. We’re not alone in rating it as the single finest surf accommodation during the Balinese wet season (November-March). You can rest assured that there’s a rush to secure bookings in the oceanfront rooms here whenever the monsoon starts to rear its head.
The reason? Look what’s literally steps away from the end of the hotel garden…The perfectly barreling rivermouth right of Keramas, a wave that we know plenty of regular rippers would sacrifice their first child to get just 20 minutes on without the crowds.
Well, it’s a hop, skip, and a jump over the coastal boulders to the paddle out from Komune, so there’s a decent chance you’ll nail down a sesh early on or late, before or after the big crowds have made their way over from Bukit.
And it’s not just the location….Komune flaunts a stunning oval-shaped pool right on the oceanside. It’s got an outdoor gym with creative weight and exercise areas. There are villa suites to rent that offer private swimming spaces and sunbathing terraces. And the whole place oozes a chic-modern style that’s still got a whiff of old-school Bali design about it.
Bombora Medewi
Of all the fine surf hotels in Bali, it’s the Bombora Wavelodge that we think has the stuff to conquer bucket lists. There’s a rumor going around that a certain Kelly Slater chose this as a base when he breezed through the island for the millionth time a few years back. True or no, we can see why he might consider it…
Bombora sits plum on the shoreline just above the peeling lefts – the longest lefts on the south shore of Bali, no less – of Medewi. All you gotta’ do is jump off the patio and paddle up to the point to start scoring leg-burning shoulders that run across a gorgeous black-sand beach.
When you’re done, the hotel itself a real tropical pad for R&R. The swimming pool juts out on a deck to offer glimpses of the Indian Ocean through pockets of ferns and palms. The rooms have vaulted ceilings and traditional Balinese blinds, plus some of the plushest doubles we’ve ever laid down on.
The main reason you’ll come here is for those aforementioned lefts, which are a lot less busy than other breaks nearer Kuta and the Bukit. The reason you’ll stay longer than you planned is that it’s a simply gorgeous hotel with low-key vibes and a prime location right on the surf.
The Soul House Bali
The Soul House Bali is something verrrry nice, sat right on the cusp of good old Batu Bolong, the home of Canggu’s world-famous bowly sandbanks.
We’re talking a 7-min walk to the waves here, and it goes past umpteen awesome coffee spots for a caffiene fix en route – AKA the dawn patrols from this one are second to none.
The place itself is a stunner. It takes that trademark Bali aesthetic to all new and dizzying heights. You’re greeted by wicker lanterns and painted tile floors, which flow through to half-indoor-half-outdoor spaces and an 8-shaped swimming pool.
The rooms have a touch of retro about them flowing from the metro-tiled bathrooms. The lounge channels the feel of an African safari lodge.
It’s essentially packed with character, boasts a fine pool, and one of the best locations of any surf hotel in the Canggu area.
Suarga Padang Padang
There’s not a hotel that gets you closer to the all-level spot of Padang Padang than Suarga. Cascading down the cliffs of that legendary Bukit location, it’s a hotel with distinctively Balinese features and a real penchant for keeping things sustainable.
The 36 rooms and suites here have been specifically designed to maintain the vernacular architecture of the island. They come with thatched roofs, timber-panelled walls, and rich teak furnishings. The whole thing is bolstered by some fantastic eco credentials, with a solar panel and battery system that provides much of the power to keep everything as green as possible.
The luxuries are easy to see: The curves of a fine infinity pool skirt the edge of the resort out front, offering sweeping views of the Padang-Padang rocks below. Then there’s the dining offering. Hit the Dugong Lounge to enjoy Asian-European fusion dishes in the form of linguine with Java Sea clams and grilled octopus with apple-soya dressing.
Hari Indah Boutique Hotel & Spa
Tucked into the side streets above ultra-consistent Bingin Beach, the Hari Indah Boutique Hotel & Spa is precisely the sort of stay you’d expect when French refinement meets tropical exoticism.
Highly curated rooms with metro tiles and four-poster beds emerge into terraces shaded by banana trees. Amidst green pockets of palms, a secret opening in the garden is home to a relaxing splash pool, while the scents of eucalyptus oils and chocolate body scrubs emerge from the on-site spa (where you can get traditional Balinese massages for $22!).
For surfs, you’re looking at a 10-minute stroll down the streets to Bingin and about the same to the paddle out spot for Impossibles. That’s good because it means you’ll be staying in the ever-growing heart of Bingin town, which now has more fantastic coffee shops and threads stores than you could want.
