Surf camps in Hossegor

5 Top-Rated Stays & Surf Camps in Hossegor [2026]

Alongside Biarritz, Hossegor is the capital of French surf.

It’s known for the pounding beach tubes of La Graviere and its annual pro comps. But it’s also the gateway to a whole region of long, sandy runs that tend to lend themselves to beginners and intermediates throughout the spring, summer, and fall months.

That’s important because you’ll quickly see that the surf camps in Hossegor that we focus in on throughout this list aren’t actually always, strictly speaking, in Hossegor.

Most are dotted around the Landes region, either to the north up the quieter and beginner-friendly beaches of Moliets, or a little to the south down Capbreton.

That’s great news because Hossegor’s neighboring areas are actually better suited to surf camps. They’re more chilled, less heavy on the barreling A-frames, and a bit cheaper to boot.

On top of that, most surf camps in Hossegor and the surrounding region either offer free transfers from a local airport straight to the camp or can organize that for a little extra on the price.

JO&JOE Hossegor

JO&JOE Hossegor / HostelWorld

No list of the best surf camps in Hossegor could possibly skip out on JO&JOE. This one’s been a staple of the scene here since it first opened and we still think it’s one of the best budget-surf stays, not just in Hossegor, but in the whole of France.

One of the original backpacker-orientated spots in the region, it offers affordable accommodation with a twist of style and luxury to it, all within striking distance of the main beaches and breaks for your daily fix of surf.

The highlight is surely that sprawling outdoor are and grounds. They count their own boules pitches, open-air bar, and funky chill-out spaces that really start to shine when the first beers are cracked on Friday night.

The accommodation is dorm-based, that’s true. But it’s not your run-of-the-mill hostel stuff. The beds here are big, moveable, pod beds with private storage and whatnot – you get plenty of privacy and comfort.

You book JO&JOE Hossegor as a standalone acocmodation and then plan the surfing on top.

That’s super easy since these guys partner with the ESCF Darrigood Surf School, which ply thier trade on legendary La Graviere beach, the home of Hossegor’s big bombs, but also lots of waves for learners. They also have an in-house surf guide in the form of European junior champ Kauli Vaast out of Tahiti.

Hôtel de La Plage

Hôtel de La Plage faces the main Plage Central right on the seafront of Hossegor. There’s hardly a better location if you want to hit the famous spots of this legendary French surf town. What’s more, this is no run of the mill coast hotel. It’s very much tailor-made for surfers, and can even count some big-name pro surfers as former guests.

The reason it stands out is because they run an on-site surf school that offers training for everyone, from total beginners to more advanced surfers looking to progress with the technicals. It’s all done under the guidance of one Guillaume Mangiarotti, a big-wave surfer and former French champs finalist (to put it another way, you’re in good hands!).

The hotels itself is also really fricking lovely. It’s got a nautical theme throughout, but it’s never OTT; always stylish, subtle. The ocean-facing rooms are fantastic – they have wide windows and balconies that look right over the waves and the Atlantic.

A note on why we partner with BookSurfCamps.com: Book Surf Camps are probably the biggest online aggregator of surf camps and surf-yoga packages in the world. We sounded out a quite a few potential partners before we affiliated with them. But, in the end, the abundance of choice for beginners, intermediates, and female-only surfing sealed it. We also love the simplicity of their booking system and the trusted brand name, along with the focus on connecting with homegrown local businesses on the ground.

Hôtel & Spa Villa Seren

Villa Seren, Hossegor

We mention the Hôtel & Spa Villa Seren here because we often recommend it as the perfect oiption for couples or high-end travelers on the search for a bit of luxury with their surfing down Hossegor way.

Nestled on the side of Hossegor Lake away from the hustle and bustle of the town center, it fronts the water with its glimmering swimming pool and sunning terrace.

Inside, the rooms are sprawling suites that meld elements of rockabilly, noir, and boho-Scandi design to offer something truly unique. We especially love the walk-in showers in the bathroom suites, and the balconies that overlook the Landes woods and waters, plus the surf-themed art pieces, of course!

When it’s time for surfing, you can either drive the five minutes it takes to reach the main Hossegor beaches. Or simply head to reception where they’ll put you in touch with partner surf schools that often do lesson packages that include a pick up and drop off at the door of the hotel.

When you get back to the hotel, the on-site bar and bistro is a fine spot for post-surf chills. The menu there is inspired by locally sourced ingredients, while the wine list is one of the finest we’ve ever come across in a surf stay! Oh yea, and there’s a spa to boot, for those sports massages and well-earned treatments.

Southwest Surfhouse

This one’s a new add to this list for 2026/27 but we’re so chuffed it’s here. Southwest Surfhouse is a bit of everything we’re about here at The Surf Atlas. They’re obsessed with sustainability, like the simple life, and aren’t focused on hardcore surf sessions every single day, but rather on living the good life. Music to our ears, guys.

They’ve run this charming little lodge for some four years now. It’s perfectly located – something like 500m back from the beaches of northern Hossegor, where – don’t worry – there are waves almost every day of the year.

There are some private double rooms, some really stylish and comfy dorms, and the whole place is done out with real class – think boho fixtures, toned down colors, nothing too fancy but everything looks nice.

The overarching vibe here is community. It’s nothing like a big, mass-produced surf camp offering. It’s for those who like making meaningful connections, eating good organic food, drinking local wine, and working in some fun surf sessions in between all that.

Les Hortensias du Lac

Les Hortensias du Lac

A final touch of luxury comes courtesy of Les Hortensias du Lac. This hotel is the option to go for if you’ve got cash to splash and are less hardcore about the surfing than most. It’s basically on the finest hotels in the region, with decent access to beaches where you can surf.

And when we say finest hotels in the region – we mean it! The pad has an infinity pool that gazes right over the shimmering waters of the Hossegor lagoon, a freshwater pool that sits behind the coast. Rooms and suites are infused with Scandi-cool styles – designer chairs, elegant retro furnishings.

When it is time to surf, just hit up reception. The hotel offers surf lesson packages starting at €50 per person, all in the capable hands of local guides. Alternatively, they have rack of Surfin Estate-shaped boards (which are lovely) for rent, so you can just head off and surf at your own pace whenever you’d like.
