5 Awesome Taghazout Surf Hostel Stays for 2025

Discover the perfect Taghazout surf hostel for you with our guide to the most immersive and characterful stays in this capital of Moroccan surf.

Taghazout is the undisputed kingpin of the Moroccan surf scene. Wedged into a wide bay that has some of Africa’s heaviest right-hand point breaks to the north and long runs of sand-bottmed beach break for learners to the south, it’s ideally located for all levels.

Granted, the main surf season only runs from Novemeber to March but that’s kinda’ great for European and American surfers looking for somewhere hot to escape the winter sun back at home.

What’s more, Taghazout is packed with some of the contient’s finest surf stays. They include chic hotels and boho surf camps but also plenty in the way of more budget-friendly accomodation.

That’s where this guide comes in. It’s must reading for anyone on the hunt for a standout Taghazout surf hostel for thier trip this year…

Amayour Surf Hostel

The Amayour Surf Hostel just does it right.

Guests bed down in a real Taghazout fishing cottage that dates back to the old days. There’s a choice of shared dorm rooms and lux doubles, which have all been recently refurbed to ooze authentic Berber charm – think plush beds covered in cotton fabrics, desert plants spurting from the arabesque vases.

All that’s backed up by a fantastic daily schedule that goes something like this: Wake up, stretch out with a yoga class, have your healthy daily breakfast of fresh fruit, yogurts, and Moroccan flat bread, surf all day (there are like 5 great spots within a 10-minute drive of here) lunch on the beach, and then chill with other guests on the rooftop bar.

To be honest, we’ve yet to encounter a Taghazout surf hostel that manages to create quite the same good vibes as this. It’s just fun, fun, and more fun.

We also love the extras that are on offer – they run regular Moroccan cooking classes, trips to the gorgeous Paradise Valley in the mini Atlas Mountains, and practical things like airport pickup for an extra fee.

The Surf Hostel

The name says it all: The Surf Hostel is a budget accommodation option aimed squarely at the surf crowd. It’s run and owned by two brothers, Taghazout locals no less, who wanted to create a laid-back and welcoming space in the heart of the village.

Well…they’ve succeeded with flying colors.

The rooms, which are mainly four-bed mixed dorms but also include seven-bed rooms and even private doubles, enjoy tiled Berber flooring, Moroccan lanterns overhead, and thick rugs on the floor for added comforts and style.

The whole place meets at the rooftop terrace, which is very much the gathering point of the hostel. You’ll go there in the evening to dine on homecooked tagines and drink mint tea with your fellow surf-travelers.

They organize literally everything you need from a surf holiday on site – board rental, lessons, surf guiding. Plus, they have extracurricular activities planned most weeks in the form of movie nights and trips to Agadir’s enthralling souks (which may cost a little extra).

Sunset Surf House

We’re cheating a bit here since the Sunset Surf House isn’t actually in the heart of Taghazout village. Instead, it’s about 10 mins down the coastline towards Agadir, in the beach-side town of Tamraght.

The key thing to note there is beach-side. This is the beginner hub of the region, with long Banana Beach and others running out front offering endless peaks of chest-high peelers that are clean, easy and fun for the whole winter season. It’s a great place to be if you’re looking to learn how to surf.

Sunset Surf House itself is just about the perfect base. It commands an enviable 10/10 rating with over 190 reviews, which many put down to the fact that the hostel is within walking distance of multiple all-level surf spots.

The lodge is colorful and authentic, with an on-site surf shop and – here’s the piece-de-resistance – a rooftop veranda over two storeys that’s the perfect place for hanging with other guests at sunset. It’s got hammocks and fine views.

Azoul Hostel Taghazout

Azoul Hostel Taghazout is the perfect shoestring stay in the town if you’re looking to really immerse yourself in the vibes of coastal Morocco. The property has loads of original touches, with whitewashed interiors and tiled floors that all emerge out onto a sunny rooftop that commands views over the flat roofs and mosque minarets of central Taghazout.

The bonus here is the location – you’re right in the thick of the surf village. The fishing beach is just down the road (less than 200m away), while surf schools and surf shops and little tagine cookhouses abound in the surrounding alleys.

We also like the small-scale nature of Azoul Hostel Taghazout. It’s not a chain hostel but more of a family home with a few dorm rooms. You should find it easy to meet and mingle with other guests here.

Dar Surf

Hidden away in the labyrinth of backstreets behind the beach of Taghazout, Dar Surf is now a famous name here. They’ve been offering bespoke and – frankly – brilliant surf-travel packages that are rammed with over five hours of surfing per day, sunset yoga, and healthy Moroccan breakfasts (and the breakfasts they serve are pretty legendary!).

But you also don’t HAVE to book a complete package with them. You can opt for room only and add-activities and meals as you go. Guests can choose between spacious eight-bed dorms or ensuite doubles for that extra bit of lux.

Communal spaces are excellent. There’s a tiled rooftop, which is where you’ll join those sunset yoga sessions. There’s a timber-built lounge and diner, where you’ll meet to eat with fellow guests in the morning and night.

Most of all, it’s the general vibe of happiness that’s exuded by the team here. It’s run by a European couple and a Moroccan surfer who clearly adore what they do.
