Medewi Surf Camp

The 4 Best Medewi Surf Camp Packages for 2025

Looking for the top Medewi surf camp for 2025? We’ve got you covered with this handpicked selection of the top stays beside Bali’s longest left hander.

If you’re on the hunt for the top Medewi surf camp, stop hunting.

We’ve scoured the coconut groves and black-sand beaches of this iconic left-hander in south-central Bali to come up with this guide to the finest surf stays in the area.

There’s good news and there’s bad news. The bad: There aren’t actually all that many planned surf camps in town. The good: That keeps the break here WAYYY quieter than what you get in Canggu or Uluwatu.

We’d add that Medewi is a great pick for surf campers. The wave is long and peeling, generally pretty forgiving for learners, but also comes with an end section that’s right on the beach where you can practice. AKA – it’s not the dry reefs and tubes of Impossibles.

Coming here also means you’ll get to experience a quieter and more authentic side to Bali, away from the crowds, gaudy nightlife strips, and – sadly – pollution of Kuta et al.

Brown Sugar Surf Camp

Brown Sugar Surf Camp

For us, the winner here is the Brown Sugar Surf Camp. It’s the top-rated Medewi surf camp out there and has been for some time now, being one of the first places to really setup shop and start offering planned itineraries in this corner of the Isle of the Gods.

So, what’s the deal?

They run 7-night/8-day packages that are tailored to different levels of surfer. Each one includes specialized instruction to match your skill…

Beginners start with on-sand training in surf etiquette and warm-up exercise. Improvers will be taken to Medewi’s reliable secondary-swell beach break spot for good practice. More advanced riders are guided out to the point to score those long lefts.

All groups get weekly video feedback to iron out any issues, plus all surf photography is included and totally free. No extra surcharges here. Nossir.

The location of the camp can hardly be beaten – it’s right there on the front of Medewi Beach. Guests can enjoy the swimming pool while the waves wash in behind them, and stays are in traditional Balinese thatched bungalows. Breakfast is also included, as is a refillable water bottle (nice touch).

Bombora Medewi

We could wax lyrical about the wonderful Bombora Medewi for days and days on end.

It’s not apocrypha that the GOAT himself whisked by this way some time ago and ripped up the left hand points here for a couple of days. If it’s good enough for Kelly, it’s good enough for the rest of us.

Thing is, Bombora has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years.

They now offer everything from simple private double rooms to sprawling family suites and even whole villas with sea views. The design is gorge – a touch of Bali, a hint of modernism, elegant volcanic-stone walls and bathroom fixtures.

There’s a swimming pool for guests right on the side of the main Medewi point break. Sit there, swim and watch the surfers.

When it comes to surfing yourself, there’s no set schedule as this is an accommodation-only booking. But it’s really a case of you surf however much and whenever you like, since the take-off point is literally steps in front of the hotel.

AgaLiving Medewi

There’s a real nice vibe to the charming AgaLiving Medewi surf camp.

The place combines the traditional look of old Balinese and Southeast Asian beach cabanas with its timber-built architecture.

But it’s also loaded with luxuries and mod cons – think high-speed internet for all your digital nomad needs plus a swimming pool where you can laze and soak up the sun in between sessions.

You can pick from larger family rooms that will sleep two adults and the little ones together or go for a more luxurious executive suite that has views right across to the palm-threaded sands of Medewi Beach.

They offer classic backpacker style breakfasts with a hint of flare to them – think banana pancakes and fruit bowls with local Balinese coffee.

Again, it’s an accommodation only booking but you’re steps off the surf beaches and you can simply ask at reception when you want to organize a lesson or something.

Medewi Surf Villa

We recommend the Medewi Surf Villa for those who like a little extra privacy and calm during their stay.

Located just under 1km from the paddle out point to Medewi’s famous left, it’s tucked into the sidestreets of the ever-growing town, a bit away from the clusters of sunbathers and surfers that gather near the shore. You’ll still wake to the sound of crawing chickens and purring scooters carrying bales of rice.

There are doubles, twins, and even a large surf villa, which is certainly the piece de resistance room of the property. Fork a little more out for that if you can – it’s got a bath with floor-to-ceiling views of the lush rice paddies and the mountains, plus a private balcony.

You book just your stay and then organize surf lessons when you get to Medewi – which is easy enough to do. There’s surfboard storage on site for anyone bringing their own board.
