Surf & Yoga Mirissa
Surf & Yoga Mirissa are the leading camp in town for sure.
We love what they offer on this surf-packed two-weeker, which includes a whopping 28 surf lessons with ISA-qualified coaches. That’s, like, LOADS! (Most camps on the island do something between five and 10 lessons during a single stay).
Basically, if you’re coming to Lanka to improve and aim to get on green waves or reefs for the first time, you can rest assured that you’ll achieve something pretty special throughout this camp.
And it’s not just the quantity of teaching you get. It’s also quality. There’s a strict 5:1 student to teacher ratio, so everyone gets loads of attention, you get post-lesson video analysis, and on-beach training in basic skills and surf etiquette.
The Surf & Yoga Mirissa camp is set back from the main road just on the outskirts of Mirissa itself. Turtle Point and the legendary Coconut Tree Hill are right across the way – one’s famous for its turtle spotting and the other for its Instagram shots.

Yasi’s Surf Lodge
For action-packed surf, beach, and chillout stays in Mirissa, there’s hardly a better spot than Yasi’s Surf Lodge. It’s the backpacker, shoestring traveler option of choice, offering bargain beds in air-conditioned dorm rooms (along with some pretty nice private doubles) and a touch of hedonism on the side.
The location is spot on if you want to be right in the hubbub of the town. Straddling the main thoroughfare of Mirissa, Yasi’s has bars, curry houses, roti stands and cafes huddling all around it. That makes it a cracking base for nightlife and they run regular crawls through the local venues starting on their own rooftop.
The dorms aren’t your usual super-cheap hostel stays. We’ve already mentioned that they come with AC. Plus, beds are hidden behind privacy curtains and upper bunks are reached via proper wood staircases – not an awkward ladder in sight!
They don’t have an on-site surf school but you’ll be really close to some of the best in Mirissa in the location so it will be a cinch to organize lessons and guided surfs. There are in-house yoga classes, though, and the breakfast offering here is pretty dang fantastic. We dream of Yasi’s pancakes sometimes.
Three Gables Boutique Villa
For luxury, there’s no beating the Three Gables Boutique Villa. Hidden in the quiet coast woods to the east of Mirissa town, it feels total detached from the beating nightlife that lines the main beach.
The property is lavish from tip to toe, whit whitewashed walls and minimalist interiors that all open up onto a breezy infinity pool beside what feels like a completely private beach – a private beach with its own secret surf spots, no less!
The rooms are absolutely gorgeous. If money allows, go for the sea-view suites, which boast baloncies gazing right out across the Indian Ocean, spacious double beds, and gorgeous marble and plush bathrooms with walk-in showers and freestanding tubs.
The hospitality here is second to none. The sunsets are some of the best you’ll ever see. And you can access both the Mirissa Right hander (in 10 minutes) and the left reefs of Madiha (in 10 minutes), which makes it a wonderful base for more advanced surfers who don’t want to be in with the fray of surf schools and whatnot.
Lucky’s Surf Camp
We’re cheating a bit here because Lucky’s Surf Camp isn’t actually in Mirissa at all. But it is close – it’s on the eastern edge of Weligama town. That’s literally like 10 minutes in a tuk-tuk from all the bars and cafes and jungles beaches of Mirissa, only with the uber-beginner-friendly waves of Weligama on the doorstep.
We think it’s an option worth considering if you’re a complete learner.
That’s not least of all because Lucky’s is a pretty epic camp. It’s a new addition to the big line up of options in Weligama, so everything is still sparlking and new.
They’ve done a cracking job of construction, with plenty of rich mahogany woods, rattan, surf art, and polished concrete. You know, the vibe ya’ll are after from a lux surf camp in Lanka.
Oh yea, and the spot has a seriously fantastic surf camp attached to it. The name should say it all – Lucky himself is the National Champion of Sri Lanka 2020 and a fantastic coach, backed up by a qualified coaching team that we think are especially great for taking you from beginner to intermediate in just a few sessions.
Of course, the only downside is that you won’t actually be staying in Mirissa. But that’s hardly a problem in Sri Lanka, where you can grab tuk-tuks here and there, even after a night out on Mirissa Beach if needed.
