4 Tasty Vegan Surf Camp Options For 2025

Our selection of vegan surf camp packages is perfect for the meat-free surf traveler on the hunt for great waves, top-quality surf training, and tasty food.

We’ll be honest: We have just the one resident vegan over here on The Surf Atlas team.

But not a drop of dairy nor a wedge of cheese has passed their lips in the last 10 years, so they do know a thing or two about surfing around the world while sticking to a stricter diet.

That’s why we set them free to go a-hunting for the best vegan surf camp packages of the moment.

Cue this guide. It focuses in on a handful of camps that put meat-free, dairy-free eating front and centre of their offering.

What we like is that they combine their menus with fantastic surf teaching, great surf guiding programs, and fun extras like group BBQs, yoga classes, and meditation.

Basically, you don’t have to worry about missing out on the full camp experience just because you’re vegan. These places have all the bases covered.

Let’s get started, shall we?

This is just one part of our complete overall guide to surf camps all around the world

Surf & Yoga Mirissa, Sri Lanka

Surf & Yoga Mirissa is a cracking surf camp option no matter if you’re vegan or plain old veggie. It makes it onto our rundown of the very best surf camps on the island of Sri Lanka regardless of how fantastically mouthwatering its food might be, so you know we ain’t just listing this here for the dal fries we’ll never forget 😉.

Before we get to said food, here’s the lowdown on the camp itself…

You’ll stay in two weeks in a gorgeous villa come hostel set just behind the wind-kissed palm trees of southern Sri Lanka. It’s got an outdoor café and chill space and interiors that ooze islander style. (There’s even a resident dog, which we promise hasn’t influenced our decision to put this top. Honest.)

The location is incredible – there’s an iconic Instagram spot literally over the road that reveals glistening golden beaches and turtle filled seas.

Surf wise, you have that intermediate-level right at Mirissa itself, but also access to the beginner beaches of Weligama (15 mins down the road) and the advanced reefs of Madiha. There’s something for everyone.

The package lasts a full 15 days. In that time, you’ll do 12 guided surf lessons with local instructors and get 12 yoga classes to boot.

When it comes to the food, you’re in very good hands. This is one of the few vegan surf camp options out there that actually has an in-house nutritionist. Maddi offers workshops in plant-based eating and cooks up a storm each morning and evening – from falafel wraps to chickpea masalas.

Seaside Tribe, Bali

Bali is choc block full of surf camps. Some much better than others.

The Seaside Tribe fit firmly into the better category.

They just get it. From the branding to the brilliant accommodation, they’ve nailed the vibe and feel of a high-quality surf camp.

There’s no mass corporate bullshit here.

They’re founding story is rooted in a real local love for the waves of Kedungu Beach and a belief in the community and connectivity afforded by sharing surfing with other people.

It’s the sort of place that instantly feels homey and friendly and authentic.

It’s also one of the finest vegan surf camp options out there today, not because it’s 100% vegan (it’s not) but because they put a huge focus on sourcing local, sustainable foods, all of which is cooked in-house and offer fantastic meat-free, dairy-free menus.

Included in the cost are all breakfast and lunches throughout your stay, plus four evening meals to boot.

The other highlight here has to be the location. It’s away from the buzzing crowds of Canggu and Kuta beside the black-sand beaches of western Bali. That means way fewer people in the line up and nice reef and beach breaks on the doorstep, which work all year round, from wet season to dry.

Tai Chi Fuerteventura Wellbeing Retreat, Fuerteventura

We have a separate guide that homes in on the finest surf camps on the utterly wonderful island of Fuerteventura, which we rate as perhaps the best or joint best of the Spanish Canaries for learning to surf.

You’ll notice that the Tai Chi Fuerteventura Wellbeing Retreat is on there, but not quite near the top. That’s certainly not for a lack of quality.

It’s just that this particular camp offers a much broader focus than just surfing and it’s a bit different to your run-of-the-mill surf package.

First off, just as the name implies, the camp has an overarching concern with wellbeing and that means your time in the water will be balanced out by lots of other activities.

Guests actually do 4x surf lessons throughout the 8-day stay but five individual yoga, Qigong or Tai Chi classes, plus Auriculotherapy treatments (a type of ancient healing that uses the ear to connect to other organs throughout the body).

The result is a great option if you’re not 100% obsessed about surfing all the darn time and would like to sample something a bit different.

Of course, the whole thing is vegan. The in-house chef serves some of the most fantastic food that we’ve ever seen in a surf camp – think plates of local Canarian veg and stewed veg and more.

The house itself is also lovely, offering its own pool and garden in a quiet and peaceful part of the island. (We’d recommend a car hire, though – getting around on the weekends, when there aren’t many activities planned can be tricky)

Vegan Surf Camp, France

The name says it all: This is the OG of meat-free surf camps. Set amid the swaying pine forests of the French Atlantic coast, a mere 20-minute walk from the main beach of lovely Moliets, it’s been offering vegan packages to surfers since 2012.

The vibe is very much get-back-to-nature. You’ll stay in cabins or glamping belltents under the twinkling stars of the Landes region and spend your evenings enjoying jam sessions and fire-pit hangouts with other guests.

Given the proximity of the beach, you can pretty much surf as much or as little as you want. Lessons are booked separately to the stay and can be added on when you arrive – they start at 70 euro for a three-hour refresher and get cheaper as you add more hours.

Food is one of the highlights. By focussing totally on vegan cooking, these guys have managed to nail it down. You’ll dine on tofu katsu curries, Moroccan tagines, vegan pancakes, zesty pad Thai noodles, vegan sushi – the list goes on.

It’s genuinely one of the most creative kitchens of any surf camp we’ve seen, not just vegan ones.
