Tamraght Surf Camp

The 4 Best Tamraght Surf Camp Packages for 2025 – Our Writer’s Picks

Looking for the best Tamraght surf camp right now? This guide has the picks, with a standout winner plus options for those on a budget and more advanced surfers.

Tamraght is the small village to the south of uber-famous Taghazout.

In the last few years, it’s emerged as the hub for surf camps and learner surfers in this part of Morocco, mainly thanks to its line of beginner-friendly beach breaks and all-round good vibes.

Lots of people get set on going to Taghazout just because it’s the name they know. We’re here to say that sort of thinking can be a bit of a mistake.

Tamraght can often be the better choice. It’s home to stacks of fantastic surf lodges and surf schools, is closer to the airport, and isn’t quite so cramped as Taghazout proper. Plus, Tag itself is only 12 minutes’ drive up the road to the north, so you’ll be able to explore it anyhow and surf the waves there.

There are downsides, of course. Tamraght isn’t directly on the coast – the shoreline here is dominated by a few big hotels. You can walk through them to stroll to the surf but it’s about 20 minutes.

Balancing that out is the fact that Tamraght is perched on a high hillside up above the beaches, which means loads of the surf hotels offer sweeping views of the Atlantic and the desert mountains behind.

We think it’s definitely a place worth considering if you fit into any of the following categories: Total beginner, budget traveler, casual intermediate looking for somewhere chill and cheap.

We’ve done the DD on what’s on offer right now to sniffle out the best Tamraght surf camp options for 2025 and beyond…

Wave Gypsy Surf & Yoga

We’ve ranked Wave Gypsy Surf & Yoga as one of the leading surf camps in Morocco for a few years running now.

We think they nail down two things PERFECTLY.

First, the look and feel of the camp. It’s an aesthetic wonder that will transport you back to the days of the old Berbers…

A cabana-covered rooftop is filled with Moroccan cushions and touched by the warm sea breezes. There are adobe walls and arabesque arches, wood-whittled doors and wicker baskets. It really looks and feels the part.

Second, their seven-night/eight-day package hits a fantastic balance between yoga, chill time, and – of course – surfing.

Participants get a lesson each weekday (five total) with guides that are specially trained to help complete beginners get to grips with the basics. There’s also daily wake up or evening yoga.

ALL food is included at Wave Gypsy Surf & Yoga. From breakfasts to packed lunches while you’re out surfing to dinners six nights of the week. And it’s tasty AF – think sustainable and healthy medleys of cumin-infused couscous, fresh Moroccan salads and spicy tagines, all with an endless supply of mint tea.

The Surf Hotel Morocco

Remember when we said Tamraght was best for complete beginner surfers? Well…forget that for one second.

The Surf Hotel Morocco has this seven-night package that specializes in intermediate surfers and up.

It’s based on a program of surf guiding twice per day, which isn’t quite the same as lessons – you get taken to secret spots up and down the coast known only the locals (and also some well-known locations) and told the basics (where to paddle out, where’s the take-off).

It equates to upwards of 5 hours of surfing daily!

It’s essentially a tailor-made intermediate surf adventure with a guide.

And you get to stay and the verrry nice Surf Hotel itself. It’s a sleek high-rise building in the heart of Tamraght that’s got a good array of contemporary doubles but also a cozy dormitory (for those looking to save $$).

Stylish lounge spaces give way to a rooftop with spectacular views there – they are eye-wateringly gorgeous when the sunset swings by each evening.

Oh yep, and all food is included in the price to boot.

All Ride Surfer

All Ride Surfer is one of those camps that will welcome you like family and you’ll be super-sad to leave. They manage that by keeping groups on the smaller side and nurturing a really social atmosphere – dinners together on the rooftop, beach picnics as a crew between surf sessions.

We really like their five-day package because it’s both affordable and compact – it costs from $415 per person and only demands five days of you’re holiday (it means you’ll still have time to escape to somewhere else in Morocco like the bazaars of Marrakesh or the hiking paths of the Atlas).

They operate out of a minimalist lodge in Tamraght. It’s got a large courtyard, panoramic rooftop terrace, and very spacious rooms with air con.

You get four full days of surfing here. You’ll start each with a 1.5-2-hour lesson, then break for lunch, and then get a few hours’ freesurfing to hone your skills. Instructors here are legendary for just how friendly and easy-going they are. You’ll be in good hands.

Sunset Surf House

The Sunset Surf House is less of a dedicated surf camp and more of a hostel. You book a dorm and then go from there – lessons, surf programs, surf guiding, and just plain old board rental can be organized with ease once you arrive, so don’t worry about any of that.

We mention it here because it’s probably the leading hostel option in Tamraght and so a fantastic choice for those on a really tight travel budget. You’re looking at something in the region of $10-20 for a bed for the night.

The piece de resistance of the hostel is the rooftop hangout area. You can got there to glug  mint tea and chat after long surf sessions. It also happens to have one of the best – you guessed it! – sunset views in the whole of Tamraght.

Consider this one if you’re really pushed for cash and maybe don’t want to book onto a fully-fledged surf camp.
