6 Amazing Surf Camps for Women in 2025

We home in the finest surf camps for women on the planet right now, with options from Sri Lanka to Hawaii, the Canaries to Costa Rica…

Here’s a crazy fact: It took until 2019 for the WSL to announce that female surfers would get equal pay to the men. 2019!

I suppose it’s better late than never, eh?

And there’s good news elsewhere in the world of women in the water…

There’s a boom going on at the other end of the spectrum. More and more surf camps for women specifically are popping up all around the globe each year.

You’ll now find options on the isles of Hawaii, beside the reefs of Sri Lanka, along the arid shores of Morocco, and between the white-painted villages of the Spanish Canaries. And that’s just touching the surface.

These are the camps that have focused on creating surf packages specifically for the female surfer.

The basics are simple: Create a safe and welcoming space where women can feel empowered to get out in the water and improve in a sport that’s so traditionally been dominated by men in the line up.

On top of that, the best of the bunch – as you’ll see below – now offer yoga packages, wellness extras like massages, high-quality accommodation, and even the possibility of new friends for life.

Salty Chicas, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands

Salty Chicas is one of the most trailblazing women’s-only surf retreats on the planet right now.

They bill themselves as a “community empowering adventurous women” from all around the world, with a focus on the transformative power of surfing and nature informing all thier packages.

The whole thing is the brainchild of the super-friendly Miki Holla – a surf entreprenuer who seems to hav ea perpetual smile.

She’s teamed up with Argentine surf coach Vicky Perez, who has over 10 years expereince in surf teaching, and qualified yoga maestro Lara Biazzi, to offer varied interaries that as much about making friends and building confidence as they are in advancing surf technique.

They work out of a cool whitewashed casita by the beaches of northern Fuerte, where you’ll enjoy spacious double bedrooms and a real nice chilling space on the roof (perfect for suntanning between sessions).

The itinerary includes daily surf lessons as its backbone but also so much more than just that – think classes in various yoga styles, surf-skate sessions at sunset, BBQ evenings, and even outings to local volcanos for hikes.

We love that it’s a small-group atmosphere (there’s a max of eight people per trip) with high-quality surf tuition and loads of extras. They just take care of it all.

Manzili Surf House, Tamraght, Morocco

The Manzili Surf House is a very highly rated camp in the learner hotspot of Tamraght, a sun-kissed Berber village set between the rolling dunes and the Atlantic Ocean on Morocco’s most surfable stretch of coast.

They offer a nicely balanced package that’s for women only. It includes four surf lessons and six nights’ accommodation, plus all your equipment, along with a visit to a traditional Moroccan Hammam for a steam bath. Breakfasts and packed lunches are also part of the price.

All that comes in for just over the $700 mark, which is pretty darn excellent compared to similar camp offerings in Europe and Central America.

The accommodation hits the spot by channeling a touch of traditional Morocco and a touch of modern style. There’s a fantastic onsite coffee shop and a rooftop for chilling to a backdrop of the Mini Atlas Mountains and the rolling waves of the Atlantic, which are a few hundred meters away.

We especially like the value for money here, and the proximity to Agadir Airport – you can be off the plane and in the camp in under an hour.

A note on why we partner with BookSurfCamps.com: Book Surf Camps are probably the biggest online aggregator of surf camps and surf-yoga packages in the world. We sounded out a quite a few potential partners before we affiliated with them. But, in the end, the abundance of choice for beginners, intermediates, and female-only surfing sealed it. We also love the simplicity of their booking system and the trusted brand name, along with the focus on connecting with homegrown local businesses on the ground.

Surf & Yoga Mirissa, Mirissa, Sri Lanka

We rank Surf & Yoga Mirissa on our list of the top surf camps in Sri Lanka because they offer one of the island’s very best two-week packages. It’s crammed with surf lessons (12 across the fortnight) and yoga (also 12), and the service is just fantastic.

They’re not an out-and-out female-only camp. However, they do offer female dorm rooms and this particular package, which is all about helping women improve their surfing under the tutelage of the two in-house ISA surf instructors (it’s very high quality stuff).

Basically, you’ll be surfing in very small groups (5:1 student to teacher max, which is truly exceptional) and on the mellow waves of Sri Lanka (spots around Mirissa tend to be softer and more forgiving than just about anywhere else in Asia). It’s perfect for improving.

The hostel and stay as a whole are mixed sex and you’ll be hanging in the pool and whatnot with guys and gals alike.

Actually, that’s why we mention this one – some people aren’t too keen on full-on women’s surf retreats. This one offers a balance: Women’s only dorms, female-focused surf tuition but a vibrant hostel with a wider group.

REVIVE at Osa Clandestina, Osa, Costa Rica

Get ready for a complete detox from modern life.

Osa Clandestina is a retreat like no other. It sits amid the lush jungles at the tail end of the Osa Peninsula, one of Costa Rica’s most biodiverse and undeveloped areas.

They offer a yearly REVIVE retreat that ties together creative writing, yoga and meditation, and surfing, plus a general escape to nature. It’s perfect for anyone looking to reconnect with the things that matter, and swap a week of dreary wintertime with a taste of the tropics (this one usually takes place in early December).

There’s daily surf or yoga run by local schools. It’s great stuff, especially since the trainers know the breaks here like the backs of their hands and that’s important in the Osa where lots of spots are secret and hard to reach.

That’s backed up by creative writing workshops that take place each day. You’ll do story sharing, journalling, and more to help channel the Shakespeare within.

Guests also enjoy farm-to-table food throughout and a stay in a luxury jungle cabana within earshot of the Pacific waves. Nice.

Chicks On Waves, Algarve, Portugal

Dreaming of endless sunshine? Dreaming of consistent Atlantic swells? Dreaming of some of the most jaw-droppingly wonderful beaches in Europe? Cue Chicks On Waves, the leading women’s surf provider in the surf mecca that is Portugal.

We LOVE what these guys are doing.

They’ve got a line up of around 17 camps that run from Saturday to Saturday from the spring to the autumn, all based out of a lovely whitewashed Algarvina villa that’s pure bliss – think a swimming pool overlooking the olive-tree-speckled hills and bright and breezy rooms that open onto sun-kissed terraces. Yea, it’s nice.

The whole thing is run by a female surfer who’s got more than 20 years’ experience and a mission to add more women to lineups around the world.

The package itself is simple: Either yoga in the morning and surf in the afternoon, or the other way round. It’s dictated by the winds, swells, and tides.

What’s great is that the location in the Algarve means you get access to the two different coastlines – the south, usually more sheltered and beginner friendly, and the west, where there’s basically NEVER a day without swell.

Maui Surfer Girls, Hawaii, USA

Maui Surfer Girls run what’s surely the finest female surf camp in the USA right now.

The obvious things: It’s on Maui, a paradise of tropical perfection, where lush mountains reign over reef breaks and beaches that are almost too fine to believe.

They add to the sheer lure of the destination itself by offering a fully inclusive package that includes accommodation at the highly rated Camp Olowalu, a coastal glamping site with access to the lonely beaches of Lahaina in south Maui.

The price includes all your on-island transport (yep, that means pick ups from the airport too) and 5x morning surf lessons with female surf instructors.

There’s three healthy meals each day for the duration of the stay and loads of adventures to help you explore Maui itself, from SUP outings in volcanic bays to Hawaiian cultural evenings.
